Once upon a time, the British Merchant
Navy was bigger than the rest of the world's tonnage added together.
Unfortunately, not so today. The reasons behind the decline
of Britain's merchant shipping are numerous and not a topic
for consideration in this web site.
Our aim is to seek out, consolidate
and preserve the rich history and traditions of the British
Merchant Navy as a lasting tribute to the men and women who
have served in any capacity under the red or blue ensigns. We
are an island race and, without our merchant fleet, times could
have been very, very, hard.
Over the coming years we aim to fill the below
with the names of shipping companies and ships. When a name
is there then so is the history, the stories and the photographs.
We don't intend to limit our research to the
large well-known companies either; the small companies were
and are just as important.
